There is a tremendous amount of forgiveness on toe and heel hits as a result of the trailing edge having most of the weight in the toe and heel. If you take a coin and lightly tap on the crown in the middle at the rear you can hear how thin it is, then if you tap towards the heel or toe you can hear how much thicker it becomes in this area. I actually do this over the phone when talking to other golf shops and it is so distinguishable that they get it.
